Lineage That'll Make Me Pennyless

Take a look at the album cover above. The man, Jesse Willingham, sitting at the bottom right is my great uncle, or cousin. I haven't really decided. Back in the day, Charles O. Collier and The Original Goldenaires were hot shit! Jesse organized the group in 1961, making it the oldest Gospel group in Cincinnati. In 1970 The Goldenaires signed with Hoyt Sullivan to a national record contract.

The hit single "I Come A Long Way," held #1 on the national charts for 15 weeks. The 70's brought the group even more success with such hits as; " Keep Walking By Faith," and " Going To The End," and in the 80's " Peace In The Valley," and " Looking For A Man," kept the group in the charts.

The 90's saw a change in the group, when lead guitarist and tenor singer, Charles O.Collier, took the helm as group leader. Charles has been with The Goldenaires for 25 years and Charles has heightened the group image with his singing/songwriting experience.

One day, I hope to get my hands on some of their songs. If the beats are hot, I probably won't have to pay royalties, since we're family and all!

"You can do it too."
