(The Late Pimp C)
It's pretty popular in the rap music, this boasting thing we do. When emcees started getting paid, the content changed from real life to, rims, chains, alchy, heauxs, et cetera. Every other emcee thinks they're God because they can rhyme, ooh, rhyme, "does it do anything else?"
I'm gonna give musicians a break today for a change. Today's spotlight focuses on your average individual. There's ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong with self-confidence. After all, it is what is needed to stay alive in today's world. I think we all get a little ahead of ourselves sometimes. Rakim was voted by Hip-Hop heads as The God Emcee. Jay-Z refers to himself as Hov, as in Jehovah. Nas calls himself God's Son. Lil Wayne thinks he's some kinda demi-God because he can rap, I seen a little girl on TV that'll shit on him. Kanye West with his out of this world ego......We all need to sit down and think about it.
Back to the average person. Today's generation of women are under the influence that their shit don't stank......Why? It's the music. Highly influenced by egotistical women like Beyonce, and.....that's about it. Who do the little boys have to look up to music wise today, Wayne, and.....that's about it.
It also trips me out how much money is the topic of music, and has been for over a decade. I especially don't like hypocrites, except myself....We can't tell the media we care about world hunger and The Virus, and then turn around and say, "Y'all broke N!99@$." At one point, Mr or Mrs Artist, weren't you broke too, now you talkin' wallet shit? Comparing wallets is plain stupid and OLD. Just because you make more mone than I, doesn't make you a better person than. Not by a long shot. That shit talk feeds ever going stereotypes and mind states: Gold Digging, Pimping, Boasting, Wack Lyrics, Bad Music, et cetera. This is why Hip-Hop is dying and people are pointing fingers in the wrong direction.
I've heard accusations from all over the place. Soulja Boy, he does his thing, it may not be that great, but he appeals to an audience being him, that's Hip-Hop. The South as a whole, Trapping, Crack, Chevy's, et cetera, that's what they do, not all of them, but if it's you, it's Hip-Hop. Unless you're faking your image, if you don't warn people you're making music through a persona and claim that's your life, you're killing it. Shouts out to Rick Ross, his music is still good though. West Coast, Lo Lo's, Chronic, Drive By's, if that's you, that's Hip-Hop. Mid-West n!99@$ are going through identity crisis right now. If you wanna act like you're from the South, go ahead, and keep murdering the music for real n!992$ tryna do it. We don't mind, it's okay, you just won't make it anywhere.
Flesh of my flesh, blood of my blood.
