I was chillin' with Relly Boi and his boys. I came through Ace's crib. To my surprise, he wasn't there yet. Odd. He told me to fall through whenever. Relly was leaving to make some music at my old stomping grounds, A-Rhyme's house. I met other upcoming artists. Talented indeed. Cottie, Moggie, and Smoke Denero. I wish I had links, but we never quite exchanged info. We don't make the same music, therefore, they didn't quite feel me. I was with A-Rhyme's brother, Boy Black. His style reminds me of Krayzie Bone of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. On the way to Black's house, we were listening to OJ da Juiceman. Culinary Art School is the wackest mixtape I have EVER heard. Anybody who seriously tries to rhyme the word, "gravy" with "paper", is either ill(in the mind), or wack. "Check my 'Port Card, girl." When Boy Black was taking me and Relly back to the crib, he brought up a valuable point I started thinking about...
He was like, "I'm thinking about actual songwriting. I want to make shit people just vibe to years later." It really made me think. Yeah, we do this music, yeah, it's good, but what does it mean? Rap music is very different from Hip-Hop, which is different from Rock N Roll. In Rock, you notice the lyrics usually don't include the word, "I". If you use the word "I" a lot, odds are, you're rapping or b-sing. Not to say ALL "I" users suck, M.T. Bag does that, and we're the best. Anyway.
I'm up at 6 in the morning watching MTV2. You know how they show cats rapping in between segments? Well, they got Jim Jones on here, spitting a whole bunch of nothing. I also caught Rick Ross' "Mafia Music" for the second time. N!99@$ ain't saying shit.
I understand the entertainment aspect of rap, but why is it all about the same shit? Trap muzik is the most annoying shit, because it's a whole bunch of cats who probably never sold drugs trying to stretch the same topic. If you give me a sub-genre of Rap, I can tell you what you'll find within, AND I can predict the rhymes too.
I guess what my problem with everything is, EVERYTHING HAS BEEN DONE UNDER THE SUN. At least, it feels that way. If that's not the case, then people are trying to do something different with the same subjects, but they're not succeeding. Some musicians are too afraid to step out and be different because they fear nobody will feel it. That's what happened with my music and Relly's boys. I don't give a shit, I know what we make is good, and that's what counts. So as a result, musicians do the same song OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. If it sold a milli before, then, shit, it might do it again. When it stops selling, then move on and abuse the shit out of that idea.
Living in this era is a daily headache. Music on the radio in previous eras meant something, or something was to be said. Today, ANYBODY with the equipment calls themselves musicians or artists. You're not. Not you, YOU. Well, Ace has UGK's new one and Jadakiss' shit. These may be the last NEW LP's I lay ears on. My uncle NEVER listens to the radio to avoid similar sounds in his beats. I think I might follow suit. I'm going into a secluded world, and I'm coming out phenomenal.
If you bastards come here often, make yourselves known. I guess you're intimidated by the best musicians in the universe. Rest assured, we're not that wrapped up in our own shit. We're trying to build a fanbase, the best way to do that is to build rapport. Drop a comment or a shout!
