F*CK THE POLICE!

The title is probably what the artist whom we're going to discuss probably said when he pursued a solo career.....

Today in music history, we are celebrating one of the illest, richest, solo artists of all time.....Gorden Sumner, better known as, Sting. He made his way into the music industry in 1978, with the band, The Police, consisting of himself, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland.

(1978) Outlandos d'Amour or Outlaws of Love. This album initially flopped because of the suggestive content of the lead singles, "Can't Stand Losing You" and "Roxanne". "Can't Stand Losing You" is about Sting, I'm guessing since it's in first person, would much rather kill himself than admit he was wrong. The cover of the single is of a guy standing on a block of ice with a noose around his neck, waiting for the ice to melt. I can see how it got a bad wrap. "Roxanne" is about a woman who prostitutes, but "those days are over." The album is considered punk, new wave, and Reggae. This album is #434 on The Rolling Stones top 500 albums list and is RIAA certified Platinum.

(1979) Regatta de Blanc or White Reggae is my personal favorite Police album. Spawning more of their most popular songs, "Message In A Bottle", "The Bed's Too Big Without You" and "Walking On The Moon". *Jeezy has the best rap ad-libs, Sting has the best Rock ones* This album is also certified Platinum and it has the #369 spot on the 500 list.

(1980)Zenyatta Mondatta is Sanskrit for Top Of The World. This is the only Police album to not make the top 500 list. This album brought about "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da" and "Don't Stand So Close To Me". "Don't Stand So Close To Me" is an ill song about a school teacher who a girl has a crush on. On one hand, he feels the same, on the other, he knows it's inappropriate. Though, Sting did write the song, and he did work as an English teacher, he denied that the song is about him. This album is two times Platinum.
(1981)Ghost In The Machine. By this time, the other two members started to not like where the music was headed. With the introduction of keyboards, saxophones and synthesizers, Andy said it felt like he and Stewart were only backing up a singer doing his Pop songs. The only song I'm really familiar with off of this album is "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic". This album was ranked #322 on the top 500 list and is certified three times Platinum.
(1983)Synchronicity. After year's hiatus, the band went hard for their last studio album together. Ranked #455 on the top 500 list and it is certified eight times Platinum. This album unleashed many classic songs like, "Wrapped Around Your Finger", "King Of Pain", "Every Breath You Take", "Miss Gradenko", "Mother", and "Synchronicity Pt1 & 2". They went out with a bang, man!

After the split, Sting went on to make eight solo albums in the span of 1985-2006.

We won't discuss those because I sense you're not ready, and I don't feel like putting the pictures on here. Sting is somewhat a prominent character in Hip-Hop. His song, "Shape Of My Heart" is sampled in Nas' "The Message", he's done a song with Twista "Stolen Car", and he featured Mary J. Blige on his album, Sacred Love. And that's real.......
