***Before I write this post, I would like to keep a mental note: LRG NOW SELLS THEIR CLOTHING FROM THEIR WEBSITE*** To the LRG illiterate, this a breakthrough!
Back in my day, whenever somebody found their niche, they stuck to it. Like Mike....Michael Jordan,b-ball legend, he crossed over to the baseball and shoes....Michael Jackson, King of Pop, then he became a babysitter....Mike Tyson, knocked a negro out with the first punch, then he just became a spectacle. Remember when rappers were rappers and thugs were thugs?
In the words of Talib Kweli, "All these thug niggas wanna rap/And all these rap niggas wanna thug/And all ya'll fuckin' the game up"....
Now everybody is dabbling in everything they can get their hands on. Jay-Z with his 9IX spray, 50 with a reality show, and Tim McGraw planning to make music with T-Pain....
This business mogul-ness isn't new though, during the turn of the music for business, we all saw the hunger to sell ringtones and singles. We all remember the release of Glaceau's Vitamin Water with head endorsor, 50 Cent, and before that, G-Unit sneakers. Even Hov took a stab at Reebok with his S Dot Carters, and R.Kelly too.
Whoever doesn't knock at Reebok or Nike's door for their own shoe is a mad man, but most people have to know where to draw the line. The biggest disappointment in my opinion was the launch of Eminem's "Shady Limited" line. I purchased G-Unit clothing before Eminem, Guerilla Unit's heavyweight hoodies are comfortable as shit, their jeans are just ugly. My problem with Shady Ltd is the wack advertisement and the fact they sell it in Kohl's...If you're a clothing heavyweight, you're at Dr.Jay's, Exclusive Wear(Provided there's one outside of Ohio and Kentucky), Turntable Lab, and even Macy's.
Enough of the business, let me switch back to the music. One thing I can't stand is celebrities who crossover from whatever they became famous for and start singing. I.E: Bruce Willis "Respect Yourself", Don Johnson "Heartbeat" and Eddie Murphy back by Rick James "Party All The Time".
Some people who've done this today, are still under my radar. The best to ever do it is, Jamie Foxx. When he came out with Unpredictable, I was convinced. He's gotten lazy with his "Just Like Me" track, so he's back on probation. The bootiest to step behind the mic...I know he doesn't do it because he's a rapper.....Mike Epps "Big Girls". This song is more cheeks than Mr.Cheeks himself.
A little post X-Mas thinking...
